    Pricing questions, answered

How much does it cost to license a song for an advert?

On Melody, licences start at $5 for social media use and $25 for broader commercial use, with the price set by the rights holder and shown on every track before you buy. Across the catalogue the median licence is $25, and around a third of tracks are priced at $100 or more for larger commercial campaigns.

Do I need a subscription, or can I just buy one track?

Either. You can buy credits one-off and license a single track without any ongoing commitment. Subscriptions from $29.99 a month exist because they work out cheaper if you license music regularly — the monthly fee is returned to you as credits, so you are not paying twice.

What happens to my licence if I cancel my subscription?

Nothing. A licence you have already purchased is perpetual for that specific piece of creative and is unaffected by cancelling. This is the main structural difference from subscription-only libraries, where your right to keep using tracks is tied to the state of your account.

Is one licence enough for all the platforms my ad runs on?

Yes. A Melody licence covers the creative across platforms — paid social, YouTube, your website and owned channels — worldwide. You do not buy a separate licence per platform. You do need a new licence for a separate campaign or a distinct creative concept.

Does the price include both the master and the publishing rights?

Yes. Both the recording and the composition are cleared in the single transaction, and you receive a PDF certificate recording the licence. There is no second negotiation with a publisher and no separate fee.

How much do artists get paid?

Rights holders receive 75% of every sync fee. On a $25 licence that is $18.75, and on a $100 licence it is $75. Melody retains 25% to run the platform. Listing music is free and non-exclusive, so tracks stay available everywhere else they already are.

    Are there any hidden fees?

No. The price shown on a track is the price of the licence. There are no per-platform surcharges, no renewal fees for a licence you already bought, and no fee for artists to submit or list music.

How long can my video be?

The Sync Editor supports videos up to 3 minutes long and 500MB in size, which covers virtually every social and paid-ad cut. Longer or larger files are rejected before upload so you are never charged for an export that cannot complete. If your video is longer, trim it to the section you are advertising with and export that.
